Behind Gen Z music star, Sombr, is another Gen Z just as creative; his older sister, Amelie Boose, a 22-year-old filmmaker & writer, whose storytelling and direction are already, slowly but surely, getting attention in indie film circles.
While her brother is making waves in the studio and topping charts, Amelie has mostly been telling stories behind the camera. She made her directorial debut recently with the short film, “Swim, Chicken!”
And, well… here are six surprising facts about Amelie Boose, her background, and the path she’s been building in film… outside being tagged “Sombr’s sister.”
1. She Was Born in New York and Grew Up in a Creative Family
Amelie was born in October 2003, in New York City, into a family that’s long been surrounded by art, media, and storytelling. Her father, Andy Boose, is the founder of AAB Productions, an event company known for producing high-profile galas and charity events across the world.
Her mother, Bennah Serfaty, on the other hand, works as the Senior Director of Communications at amfAR (The Foundation for AIDS Research).
Her parents met in December 1999 while working at amfAR, got engaged in March 2003, and tied the knot on July 19, 2003, and have been together for over two decades.
From an early age, Amelie Boose, now 22, and her younger brother Shane Michael Boose, now known professionally as Sombr, were exposed to creative spaces; events, music, and storytelling. That upbringing clearly rubbed off.
2. She’s a Wesleyan University Film Graduate
Amelie attended The Clinton School in New York City and graduated high school in 2021 at 17. That fall, she began her degree at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, majoring in Film Studies.
At Wesleyan, she wasn’t just another student; she was active and involved in several university film-related activities including the Wesleyan Film Series, volunteered as Event Staff, and immersed herself in hands-on film work.
She graduated in 2025, just before turning 22, with a strong portfolio that already set her apart from her peers. And, oh, she made her directorial, a lot more recently.
3. She Directed Her First Short Film in 2025
In May 2025, Amelie Boose made her directorial debut with a short film titled “Swim, Chicken!”, which premiered at Ring Hall, Wesleyan University.
The lighthearted comedy, written and directed by Amelie herself and starring Lila King, was filmed between July 2024 and May 2025. The film, while not in any streaming platform, blended humor and emotional storytelling in a way that feels fresh and Gen Z-authentic.
The film earned her recognition within Wesleyan’s creative community and hinted at a promising career ahead, which, might just take often pretty quickly sooner than later.
4. She’s Already Worked With Major Production Companies
Even before graduation, Amelie Boose had racked up an impressive résumé. She interned at several film companies including:
- Elara Pictures (2023 – 2024): Assisted in film development and production tasks.
- Artemis Pictures (2024): Worked on early-stage production coordination.
- A24 (2024 – 2025): Joined as an Acquisitions & Development Intern, helping evaluate potential scripts and film ideas.
She also worked as a Key Production Assistant for Si la isla quiere between January and October 2024, gaining valuable on-set experience.
It’s rare for a 22-year-old to have real A24 credits on their résumé, but Amelie’s drive, and connections built through her family’s creative network, helped her get there.
5. She’s Close to Her Brother, Sombr, and Has Even Worked on His Projects
Amelie isn’t just Sombr’s sister; she has been part of his creative circle. In 2025, she helped write the story for his music video “12 to 12”, directed by Split the Moon and starring Addison Rae.
The collaboration was a small but clear example of how their creative energies overlap; Sombr handles the sound, Amelie builds the story. The siblings share a deep bond, often cheering each other on publicly but staying grounded as a family that values privacy over fame.
6. She’s 6’3”, Has a Jewish Background, and a Quiet Online Presence
Amelie Boose stands at 6 feet 3 inches (190 cm) tall and weighs around 62 kg (137 lbs). She has brown eyes, brunette hair, and a fair skin tone.
From her father’s side, she has German, English, Swiss, Scots-Irish, Scottish, Dutch, French, Irish, and Swedish roots; from her mother’s, Jewish ancestry; both Sephardi and Ashkenazi.
She keeps her social media presence light; her Instagram (@amelieboose) has just over 4.8K followers, and she’s not on TikTok nor any other social media platforms. Most of her online activity stays focused on film projects and personal photography. Well… yeah, she takes quite a lot of cinematic photos.
