Sombr might be the one making headlines now, but his parents, Andy Boose and Bennah Serfaty, have been doing impressive things long before their son became the internet’s new favorite pop act.
They are not just “Sombr’s parents,” both built solid careers; Andy in event production, Bennah in communications, and their story together goes all the way back to the late ’90s.
Well… The GenZStars Team now gives you a glimpse into the lives of the people who raised one of Gen Z’s most-talked-about stars. :))
1. They Met Through Work Back in 1999
Their paths crossed in December 1999 at amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, in New York City. Andy was a temporary staffer in the Special Events Department, and Bennah had just joined as the organization’s new Publicity Director after graduating from the University of Wisconsin.
Andy once shared that the moment Bennah walked into the office, he noticed her, and what started as a work friendship slowly turned into something much more.
2. Bennah Was Married Once Before
Before she and Andy became a thing, Bennah Serfaty was briefly married to Danny Moses Shir. The wedding took place on April 8, 2000, at Lord Thompson Manor in Connecticut, with Rabbi Michael Cahan officiating. That marriage ended shortly after, and a few years later, Bennah’s story took a new turn with Andy.
3. They’ve Been Married for 22 Years
Andy Boose proposed to Bennah in March 2003, and they tied the knot a few months later on July 19, 2003, in New York. As of 2025, they’ve been married for 22 years and have known each other for 26.
4. They’re Only a Year Apart in Age
At the time of their wedding, Andy Boose was 32, and Bennah Serfaty was 31.
- Bennah was born on March 31, 1972 (now 53).
- Andy was born in 1971 (now 54).
5. They Have Two Kids; Sombr and Amelie
The couple share two children:
- Amelie Boose – born October 2003, now 22, and a Film Studies graduate from Wesleyan University. She’s on Instagram at @amelieboose.
- Shane Michael Boose (Sombr) – born July 5, 2005, now 20, and currently one of the most exciting new faces in pop.
6. Tall Genes Run in the Family
Everyone in the Boose-Serfaty household is tall enough to stand out in a crowd.
- Andy Boose stands 6 feet 2 inches tall (188 cm)
- Bennah Serfaty stands 5 feet 11 inches tall (180 cm)
- Sombr stands 6 feet 7 inches tall (201 cm)
- Amelie Boose stands 6 feet 3 inches tall (190 cm)
7. Andy Boose Works in Events
After years of working at amfAR, Andy went on to create AAB Productions in 2004, an event company known for producing high-profile charity and luxury events worldwide.
He’s been behind galas in Cannes, New York, Paris, Milan, and Hong Kong, working with organizations like UNICEF, Elton John AIDS Foundation, Madonna’s Raising Malawi, and the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.
During his time with amfAR, he helped transform their Cannes Gala from a small dinner that raised $100,000 to a major event pulling in as much as $35 million.
8. Bennah Serfaty Works in Communications
While Andy Boose branched out, Bennah Serfaty remained with amfAR, where she now serves as Senior Director of Communications.
Her role has put her in the middle of major events and celebrity-filled fundraisers, including one attended by Janet Jackson. Despite the demands of her career, she’s known for maintaining balance and being deeply supportive of both Andy and their kids.
9. Their Family Has Deep Roots
Sombr’s parents; the Boose-Serfaty background is a mix of cultures and stories:
- From Andy’s side: German, English, Swiss, Scots-Irish, Scottish, Dutch, French, Irish, and Swedish ancestry.
- From Bennah’s side: Jewish heritage; both Sephardi and Ashkenazi.
That makes Sombr part Jewish through his mom, while also connected to several European lineages through his dad.
- Paternal grandparents: Robert Andrew Boose & Jeanne Springer
- Paternal great-grandparents: Howard Russell Boose Jr., Peggy Specht, Alfred Springer, Joan Ruth Beyer
- Maternal grandparents: Marc Mordechai Serfaty & Sheila Rosenberg Wilson
- Maternal great-grandparents: Yedidiah Serfaty, Simha Tordjman, Louis Wilson (Wilkoreiski), Bertha Rosenberg
10. They Keep a Low Profile but Stay Close
Sombr’s parents, Andy and Bennah, have kept their relationship private since day one. They’ve raised two grounded, creative kids, both chasing their own passions, Sombr in music, Amelie in film.
Amelie made her directorial debut recently with the short film “Swim, Chicken!” while Sombr continues his rise in pop. The Boose-Serfaty family might not seek the spotlight, but they’ve definitely earned it.
Why Andy Boose Cares So Much About AIDS Fundraising
Andy Boose has said that his work in AIDS activism was personal. His high school theatre teacher, Barry, who had mentored him, passed away from AIDS shortly before Andy joined amfAR. Working there became his way of honoring that loss.
Andy Boose’s Net Worth
There’s no official figure, but Andy’s decades-long career in luxury event production and his partnerships with global organizations suggest he’s done very well. His production company, AAB Productions, has managed events that raised tens of millions for charity; not bad for a guy who started out as a temp.
Life at Home
These days, Sombr’s parents, Andy Boose and Bennah Serfaty, still live in New York and continue to balance busy careers with family life. Sombr often credits them for encouraging his creativity, while Amelie is exploring film. The family doesn’t post much about their private life online, but it’s clear they’re close and supportive of each other.
